Tor Project Reports 8M Daily Users — New Record

The Tor Project has reported a new record of approximately 8 million daily users accessing the Tor network, representing a 15% increase year-over-year and a significant acceleration in adoption driven by privacy awareness growth and increased censorship in several regions.
The growth in Tor usage spans diverse use cases: journalists operating in authoritarian environments, privacy-conscious general users, darknet marketplace participants, and researchers studying internet censorship. The Tor Project notes that the majority of Tor usage is for accessing the regular internet through Tor exit nodes rather than .onion hidden service access.
The network currently operates approximately 8,000 relay nodes and 1,500 guard nodes, with bandwidth capacity expanded to support the increased user base. The Project also reports improvements in connection speed and reliability that have reduced the user experience gap between Tor browsing and standard internet access.
